About

The project 5G Connect Danube Delta (5G-CDD) aims to improve the quality of life and economic opportunities in 22 localities in the Danube Delta through the development of 5G communication infrastructure, essential for the well-being of communities, combating isolation, enhancing public services for residents and tourists, and promoting sustainable development.
The main coordinates are access to quality healthcare services and to educational resources and programs. Moreover, environmental monitoring and the promotion of slow tourism facilitate the sustainable development of the reserve.

Context

The Danube Delta, a unique ecosystem and part of the UNESCO heritage, will benefit significantly from this digital infrastructure, which supports isolated localities, creates employment opportunities, and contributes to biodiversity conservation.

Impact

The 5G-CDD project is an important step in capitalizing on the region's potential with the help of modern technologies. The introduction of 5G technology and the integration of applications for digital education, telemedicine, slow tourism, and environmental monitoring will fundamentally transform the region.
The project funding obtained from the European Commission underscores the commitment of the partners in the consortium that will implement the project to support the development of digital infrastructure and to improve the quality of life for residents of the Danube Delta.

Scope

The 5G-CDD project aims to build a communication infrastructure based on 5G Stand Alone and Edge Cloud in the Danube Delta, which will improve the quality of life for residents and tourists, while simultaneously generating new opportunities for the development of entrepreneurial initiatives in the region.

Details

Spanning a period of 36 months, the project started on October 1, 2024, and is scheduled to conclude on September 30, 2027.
5G Infrastructure will be installed in 22 hard-to-reach localities of the Danube Delta: Sulina, Sfântu Gheorghe, Mahmudia, Beștepe, Chilia Veche, Ceatalchioi, Plauru, Tatanir, Murighiol, Maliuc, Malcoci, Partizani, Gorgova, Crișan, Mila 23, Caraorman, C.A. Rosetti, Letea, Periprava, Nufăru, Mineri, and Isaccea.
Based on this new radio infrastructure, the project consortium partners will develop a series of innovative applications aimed at improving educational, medical, tourism, and environmental monitoring services in the region.
